Ben Baker (b. 1993) is a cellist, composer and collaborator of diverse talents based in Boston, Massachusetts.

As a classically trained cellist with a focus on contemporary music, Ben has worked with the likes of Steve Reich, Jo Kondo, Michael Gordon, Louis Andriessen and groups such as Bang On A Can. Most interested in blurring the lines between genres and musical traditions, Ben has also collaborated extensively with musicians from a vast array of styles, including regularly performing at Boston’s renowned home of folk music Club Passim, working with John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, and collaborating with many young and upcoming groups in Boston. Ben has most recently appeared on Louis Cole's latest solo album, Time.

Ben is also a composer, working regularly with ensembles throughout Boston. Drawing together elements from a wide array of traditions, his compositions build driving grooves through a textural language and subtle use of extended techniques.

Ben is one half of the duo We Are Breathing, along with Australian composer/performer Connor D'Netto, creating raw, tender and emotional sounds unconstrained by genre. With Ben on cello and Connor on synths and live electronics, their music fuses Connor’s unique compositional voice and Ben’s virtuosic playing creating complexly layered soundworlds.

In mid 2017 Ben graduated with a Bachelor of Music from The Eastman School of Music where he studied with Steven Doane. Currently he is undertaking a Masters in Contemporary Classical Music at Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
